Hostels
Hostels provide budget-minded travelers with a unique place to call
home for a night. Here you can cook, perhaps do laundry, socialize with others, usually sleep in a dormitory bunk bed, take a shower, and get information for tommorrow's adventure. They usually open in the late afternoon, lock their doors at a reasonable hour, and close by mid-morning of the next day, unless located in a major metropolitan area. They're all over the world and coastal areas seem to be especially well-populated with them. Some are simple, some are quite unique! For example the hostels along the California coast include a pioneer home, a former military hospital, lighthouse keeper's quarters, late nineteenth century cottages, and a former library! Hostels can be used by all age groups, and some hostels offer a private room to accomodate families or couples seeking privacy. Anyone may use hostel facilities, but if you become a hostel member then you pay less for each nights stay.
