WHAT: Trail Maintenance/Improvement in Forest setting along "Clark's Last Mile"- a potential section of the proposed Lewis & Clark Discovery Trail - and possibly the Washington Coast Trail!
WHEN: Dates - Saturdays, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th
Times - Begin: 10 AM / Finish: 6:00 PM
WHERE: Fort Canby State Park, Ilwaco, WA, Long Beach Pennisula, South End of Washington Coast
MEETING PLACE: DAY-USE PARKING LOT BY WAIKIKI BEACH BEYOND REGISTRATION BOOTH TO THE LEFT SIDE OF ROAD.
HOW LONG: Drive: Hike: 1 Hour / 1-3 miles; Trailwork: 4 Hours
WHO: National Coast Trail Association Volunteers and Washington State Parks
WHY: Trail maintenance and improvements along a potential section of the proposed Lewis & Clark Discovery Trail approximating Clark's Last Mile hike to the very edge of the Pacific Ocean! We may also work on the "Washington Coast Trail" if time permits on such things as drainage, trimming vegetation, tread work, and other work, too!
INCENTIVE: Make a difference, get dirty, & hike the same approximate route traveled by Captain Clark of Lewis & Clark fame.
YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY DAY-USE FEES AS A VOLUNTEER DOING TRAILWORK.
LOGISTICS: [FROM PORTLAND: LEAVE BY 7:00 AM AT THE LATEST! - 3 hours one way/125 miles - TAKE RT 26 & HWY 101 NORTH, I-5N CROSSING THE COLUMBIA AT LONGVIEW TO RT 30 IN OREGON, OR RT 30 TO ASTORIA AND CONTINUE ACROSS COLUMBIA RIVER TO WASHINGTON FOLLOWING 101 NORTH TO ILWACO, WA.]
GENERAL DIRECTIONS: TAKE HWY 101 TO ILWACO, WA AND FOLLOW SIGNS TO FORT CANBY STATE PARK. GO TO THE REGISTRATION BOOTH AND FIND THE DAY-USE AREA AT WAIKIKI BEACH.DAY'S SCHEDULE:
10:00 Orientation & Training
11:00 HIKE along the trail for survey and analysis.
11:30 Trail Work
1:00 Lunch
1:45 Trail Work
3:15 Break
3:30 Trail Work
4:30 HIKE along trail to observe/learn about work done.
5:30 Arrive back at cars for Feedback & Recognition!
